The Gridwork Momentum System

A documented SEO system for home service contractors, deployed in three phases over six months. You get the whole system, not a menu you assemble from, and the guarantee is that all of it gets built.

What you're actually buying

Most contractors have already paid for one piece of this. A site somebody built, a batch of blog posts, a directory listing, a month of ads. It didn't compound, because the pieces went in the wrong order and nothing connected to anything else.

The Momentum System is the order. Foundation first, because content on a broken site is just more pages that don't rank. Then the content engine, running weekly rather than in bursts. Then authority, once there's something worth pointing links at. Each phase depends on the one before it, which is why we don't let clients skip to the fun part.

Phase 1: Foundation (weeks 1 to 4)

Fix what's leaking before adding water. Most contractor sites have technical problems quietly capping everything built on top of them.

  • Technical SEO audit and fixes
  • Google Business Profile rebuild
  • Site architecture and internal linking
  • Lead tracking that actually attributes

Attribution is the one people skip and the one that decides everything else. If you can't tell which channel produced a call, you can't tell whether any of this worked, and you'll end up renewing or firing us on a feeling.

Phase 2: Content Engine (ongoing, weekly)

Pages that answer what your customers actually search, published on a schedule instead of whenever someone remembers.

  • Service pages built to rank and convert
  • Location pages for every market you serve
  • Articles targeting real buying questions
  • AI search optimization for ChatGPT and AI Overviews

Weekly is the part that does the work. Four articles in January and nothing until June reads to Google like a site somebody abandoned, and it reads to a homeowner the same way.

Phase 3: Authority (month 3 onward)

The part that makes Google trust you over the company that opened last year, and the part almost nobody does consistently.

  • Local link building and sponsorships
  • Review generation systems
  • Citation cleanup and consistency
  • Quarterly strategy review

Authority is slow and cumulative, which is why it starts in month three. There's no reason to earn links to a site that isn't finished.

What Google is actually evaluating

The phases aren't arbitrary. Google doesn't rank websites, it ranks individual pages, and it judges each one on a handful of things. Every phase above exists to answer one of them. This is also where the four pillars we used to describe separately now live.

What Google weighsOld pillarWhere it lives now
Whether it can crawl, read, and index your site at allTechnical SEOPhase 1, Foundation
How clearly you explain each service you sellOn-site SEOPhase 1 architecture, then Phase 2 service pages
Whether the page matches what was actually searchedContentPhase 2, Content Engine
Whether your business looks experienced and trustworthyContent and proofPhase 2 pages, Phase 3 reviews
How strong your local presence isLocal SEO and authorityPhase 1 profile, then Phase 3

That last column is the argument for the order. You can't earn trust signals for a site Google can't read, and there's no point writing service pages nobody can find. Clear service pages beat a flashy homepage every time, because the service page is the thing that actually ranks.

The Gridwork Guarantee

We guarantee deployment of the Gridwork Momentum System. Every phase, every deliverable, on the schedule we set at kickoff.

What we don't guarantee is lead volume, because that depends on your market, your crew, and what happens after the phone rings. A promise about your business isn't ours to make. A promise about our work is.

What makes this worth something is that you can check it. Hold this against your own site in month four. Every row is a yes or no question with a date attached.

By monthWhat you should be able to verify
1Technical audit delivered, and the fixes it named are done
1Google Business Profile rebuilt, categories and services correct
1Lead tracking live, and a test call shows up in it
3Service pages published, one per service you sell
3Articles publishing weekly, with dates you can read
4Link and review work running, not just planned
4A quarterly strategy review on the calendar

If a phase doesn't ship, we finish it at our cost. No arbitration clause, no thirty-day cure window buried in an appendix. The full argument for why it's written this way is in the article on the guarantee.

Who this is for

Owner-led home service contractors with an established business, a real service area, and margin to invest in owned channels rather than rented ones. Plumbers, HVAC, roofers, electricians, remodelers, landscapers, and the trades alongside them.

It isn't for you if you don't have a website yet, if you're spread across regions with no clear market, or if you need leads this month. Paid advertising does that and this doesn't, and we'd rather say so now than in month three.

The 5% we can't do for you

There's a small piece only the owner can do, and it decides whether the other 95% turns into work. Answering the phone. Getting back to a quote request the same day. Sending the review request after a job goes well. Telling us when a job type dries up so the content follows the business instead of last year's version of it.

We can build the demand. You still have to catch it.

The full list of what an owner can run alone, and the point where it usually stops, is in Marketing Is Simpler Than You Think and Harder Than You Want.

What to expect, month by month

Most of the first two months is invisible from the outside, which is the part contractors find hardest. Here is what is actually happening, and what you can check.

MonthsWhat we're doingWhat you can see
1 to 2Foundation: audit, fixes, profile rebuild, trackingAudit findings, a rebuilt profile, attribution running
3 to 4Content engine publishing weeklyRankings moving, profile visibility up, traffic building
5 to 6Authority work compounding on top of contentLinks and reviews landing, first page-one positions
6 to 9All three phases running togetherA measurable increase in inbound calls

Anyone selling you thirty days is either selling ads, which do work in thirty days and stop the month you stop paying, or selling you a keyword you were already going to win.

Frequently asked questions

Do you guarantee rankings?

No. We guarantee the system gets deployed, which you can verify yourself against the phase list on this page. Ranking guarantees are usually written against a keyword you'd already win, which is why they never pay out.

Am I locked into a contract?

No. $2,000 a month, no setup fees, no long-term contract. We ask for six months because that's how long the compounding takes.

Who actually does the work?

John does. There are never more than ten clients here at once, and the person who reviews your site is the person who works on it. No junior writer, no AI tool running unsupervised.

What if I already have an agency?

Bring their last three reports to the strategy session. The fastest way to tell whether the work is real is to check it against the phase list here and see which phases were ever built.

Does this work outside Asheville?

Yes. Gridwork is based in Asheville and works with contractors nationwide. Local SEO is the same system in any market, and the phases don't change.
